Connect Email so the terminal can send invitations and set-password links. Use your own SMTP server, or a Postmark or SendGrid account. Email connects once for the whole company. Without it, invitation links are shown on screen once for you to pass on.
What it lights up #
- Settings · Team invitations
- Set-password links for new owners
Choose how mail leaves #
Set Send with to smtp, postmark or sendgrid. The form shows only the fields for that choice. Then fill in From address (required) and From name (optional).
SMTP (your own mail server) #
- Create a dedicated mailbox, or an app password, for VX Terminal. Don't use a person's own login.
- Enter the SMTP server name only, like
smtp.yourcompany.com(nohttps://and no port). - Port
587with Securitystarttls(most servers), or465withtls. Ports 25 and 2525 are also accepted. Unencrypted SMTP is not offered. - Enter the Username (usually the mailbox address) and Password.
Provider notes:
- Google Workspace / Gmail:
smtp.gmail.com, port 587. An app password needs 2-Step Verification, and may be turned off for work accounts by your admin. - Microsoft 365:
smtp.office365.com, port 587 withstarttls(465 is not supported). SMTP sign-in (SMTP AUTH) must be enabled for the mailbox and doesn't work with Security Defaults. Microsoft plans to switch it off by default for existing tenants at the end of December 2026, so a Postmark or SendGrid account is the safer choice.
Postmark #
- In Postmark open Servers, choose your server, then the API Tokens tab, and copy a Server API token. Not the account token.
- Make the From address a confirmed Sender Signature, or verify its whole domain. Postmark won't send from free-mail addresses such as Gmail.
- Paste the token into Postmark server token.
SendGrid #
- In SendGrid open Settings → API Keys → Create API Key. Choose Custom Access (older screens call it Restricted Access) and set Mail Send to Full Access. Copy the key; it is shown once and usually starts with
SG.. - Verify the From address or its domain under Settings → Sender Authentication. Single Sender verification is fine for a trial; use Domain Authentication for real use.
- Paste the key into SendGrid API key.
Save and test #
Press Test, then Save. Test signs in and sends nothing.
How Test works #
For SMTP, Test connects, encrypts, signs in and quits. For Postmark it reads the server ("Connected to the Postmark server …"). For SendGrid it reads the key's permissions ("The SendGrid key works and has Mail Send permission. No mail was sent."). No mail is sent.
